In campaign finance, “mega donors” (or “megadonors”) are very wealthy individuals (and sometimes closely held entities) who give extremely large sums—often millions of dollars per cycle—to candidates, parties, super PACs, and other political organizations, far beyond what typical donors give. A tiny number of these donors now account for a large share of all money in U.S. federal elections, especially in super PAC and other outside spending.[1][2]
